What is Soft Focus?
We are a new print zine publication looking to foster a community where people can share their love for movies through writing and art. We are interested in the process of sharing ideas through tangible means and creating a physical object that can be held, shared, lost, found, framed, ripped, etc.

We hope to create an accessible space that is enjoyable for folks with all different levels of filmic knowledge and experience. Whether you only watch films made in the 1930s or love to preach about rom coms, we want to hear from you!

What kind of work are we looking for?

We are interested in personal essays, reviews, interviews, creative non-fiction, humor pieces, cultural criticism, odes, love letters, artwork, photography, comics, etc. We are not currently accepting fiction stories or pieces that are overtly academic in nature (we want this zine to be accessible to a wide audience). If you are unsure if your submission meets what we are looking for, please send us an email! Since we are a new publication we are open to some fluidity/experimentation.

What’s the vibe?

We expect each issue to be a bit different depending on the theme and contributors. That being said, we are interested in work that explores movie watching/making through a personal and emotional lens. We want to hear your unique thoughts, feelings, and experiences. We value intentionality, vulnerability, strong voices, and distinctive perspectives.
The Team

Morgan Tabb
Founder & Editor-in-Chief

Morgan Tabb (she/her) is an aspiring filmmaker who holds a BA in Film and Media Studies from Smith College. She currently works in a library and is writing a feature length screenplay. When not doing either of those things, you can usually find her listening to movie podcasts or writing quippy reviews on her Letterboxd.
